Wedding Files: Save the Date!

December 29th, 2013

Hello! Did you have a lovely Christmas? The time just flew by so fast this year that it’s hard to believe Christmas has already been and gone. We’ve been spending some  much needed time together these last few days as things have been insanely busy the last few months with buying the house, renovating and very busy work schedules. We have managed to tick a bunch of things off our seemingly never-ending renovation to-do list, so it’s been a wonderful {sort-of} break.

So now that 2014 just about here, we have also been getting into wedding planning mode! We’ve been engaged for a year now and our big day is just over 4 months away so we also have that huge to-do list to contend with too! So to kick off my Wedding Files column once more, I thought I’d stop by and share with you our Save the Dates, which we made ourselves. I really loved a gorgeous Save the Date I’d spotted on Minted a few months ago {they have a huge and lovely selection, check it out if you’re in the market for beautiful paper goods!} but in the end we decided to save some pennies we could put elsewhere and I am so pleased with the result. We used one of the beautiful photographs snapped by Anouschka Rokebrand during our engagement shoot. As we had so many favourite images and couldn’t decide, I made two versions, one of which we sent out to our nearest and dearest. So this one is especially for you. Save the date, you guys!

Ok, now I’m excited! This month, I am meeting with my wedding dress designer to finalise the design and select the fabrics, and am hitting one of my favourite shops with a good friend to choose some jewellery to wear. We will also be selecting our caterers this month, which is also exciting because the food is a very important element of the celebrations. And some of my most cherished guests will be securing their flights over to join me up there on the aisle. It’s going to be a fun few months!

I’ll be sharing all the wedding details and inspiration on the Wedding Files column over the coming months as things gradually fall into place. In the meantime, drop into my Pinterest wedding board for a peek into the kind of gorgeous I am planning in the spring!

Have a fabulous new year and see you back here in 2014!

A Wreath Inspired Christmas Star

December 20th, 2013

Hi guys! So yesterday I shared a styled Christmas setting with you that I recently put together and promised to be back with a quick how-to on making the star decorations I used. So here you have it, the full tutorial on how to create your own. You can keep it super simple like I did for the shoot or you can add more foliage, whatever goes. I decided to beef up the star for today’s tutorial using eucalyptus leaves and some white flowers. I used these flowers for the last wreath I made and I chose them again because their stems make them easy to attach to the star frame. The wooden stars I used I just purchased at a home decor store locally. I saw them and thought, I could have a little fun with those! You can also create your own by foraging some twigs in your local park or forest and binding the stems together with twine.

Delft Blue Inspired Styled Christmas Table

December 20th, 2013

With Christmas right around the corner, I thought I’d stop by today to share with you a few snaps from a recent styled shoot I threw together for Style Me Pretty Living. I teamed up with the talented photographer Anouschka Rokebrand to bring you guys a festive but understated holiday table drawing on the beautiful blue and white porcelain that is the signature of the town where I live, Delft, as inspiration. This stuff has been around for years, and has fascinated me ever since I came to live in this pretty part of the world. The way it was (and still is) hand painted, each tiny little detail after the next. And the old stuff, the pieces that have faded with time, have chipped and cracked with wear. Oh, it’s beautiful. Take a little peek at the results and I’ll share my inspiration after. The images are way too gorgeous for a long, drawn out introduction, so here you go. Enjoy!

Inside Scoop: Monochrome Calm in a Netherlands High Rise

December 17th, 2013

Dropping in to share another interior with you today, this time the home of graphic designer and co-owner of Paqhuis, Karlijn De Jong. I photographed her space for my Houzz column recently, and was instantly amazed at her home’s disciplined colour scheme. A palette of black, white, grey and the odd pastel hue rules in the high rise Tilburg apartment that she shares with her husband and baby boy. Take a peek at the full scoop of images, and if you’re keen to know more about their story and all of their furnishings, be sure to drop by Houzz. Let’s get this party started in the bedroom, shall we? Loving that tiny hint of blush pink.

A Few Ideas for Christmas Crafting

December 11th, 2013

Well didn’t this year just fly by? I feel like it’s still October and Christmas is somewhere very far away, but here we are, halfway through December and I still haven’t put up the tree. It’s been busy on my end with the move, renovating and I’ve been working really hard these last few months, so I’m a tad behind. But I did a gorgeous Christmas inspired shoot a few days ago (more to follow soon!) and after inhaling my fair share of eucalyptus and doing some Christmas crafting for the shoot, I am now officially ready for the season! So today I wanted to share some small, easy crafting ideas with you to help make your home a festive one this Christmas.

Wedding Files: Our Engagement Session Featured on Style Me Pretty!

December 6th, 2013

So today I am getting personal, and romantic. And even a tad mushy. And that’s OK every now and then, because it’s not very often that you find yourself splashed all over the pages of your all-time favourite wedding blog, hand-in-hand with with man you love. So, I hope you don’t mind me dropping in today, giddy with excitement, to share a collection of my favourite images taken recently of my fiancé  and I during our engagement session. Our incredibly talented photographer Anouschka Rokebrand did such a beautiful job at capturing us in the most natural, relaxed way, giving us a bunch of images to treasure that just ooze a love so tangible you can almost feel a warm glow emanating from the computer screen. And of course every girl wants to look her best on these romantic occasions, so just as well I had Katie Larcombe on hand to pretty me up for my husband-to-be! It was such a fabulous afternoon. Sigh…

Inside Scoop: An Eclectic and Colourful Amsterdam Home

December 1st, 2013

Hello! I hope you all had a great weekend. Though I’ve had the flu I managed to get a little further in the renovations after a week of doing nothing and feeling frustrated about that. It’s been tough getting things done ever since the big guy went back to work and though we have a bunch of little things that need doing, by the time we find an hour or two in the evening we are both exhausted. So, in true die-hard spirit, flu or no flu, I applied a second coat of primer on Lola’s bedroom floors (which are original wood that we found underneath nasty orange vinyl) and a first coat of floor paint. In fact, painting with the flu is a great idea because the fumes didn’t bother me at all. Genius!

Stepping away from my chaotic home for a moment though, I wanted to share with you a gorgeously eclectic home I photographed recently for Houzz. It is the home of design duo Romy Boesveldt and Ilya Yashkin and their three children. Vintage and flea market finds, treasures picked up during travels and the couple’s own simplistic designs against a backdrop of creamy whites and pastel tones makes this Amsterdam home one of the most charming I have seen to date.
