Currently Loving: Terra-cotta

July 31st, 2014

I rarely use the word ‘trend’ because in my work and life as a stylist I try to avoid following trends but rather create spaces out of a genuine appreciation for a certain product, element or simply, a feeling. For clients, I try to translate personal inspiration and experiences into a concept for their home’s interior, filling it with the items they truly love to create a personal and inspiring space for them to call home. Here on the blog, I avoid writing about current trends because I myself don’t follow trends per se. I am aware of what’s trending in the world of interior style, and I do find that I am more drawn towards certain styles than others because they’re in my direct environment, but I won’t rush out and buy the latest trend if it’s not a genuine fit with what I love. So I hesitate to suggest terra-cotta as being a micro trend at the moment, but as I see it appearing more and more in interiors I must say, it seems to have risen back from the 90s and I’m really liking it!

Inside Scoop: Family Friendly Abode by a Dutch Design Duo

July 28th, 2014

Did you guys have a good weekend? I had the great honor of doing the flowers and venue styling for one of my closest friend’s wedding and am feeling exhausted but fulfilled. Here’s a peek at the bouquet I rustled up late last Thursday night for her, which she was thrilled with. {Phew!} Back to work today, and I noticed it’s been a while since I posted on my ‘Inside Scoop‘ column and took you through an inspiring interior that made it’s way behind my lens recently. So to kick off the week, take a tour around the cheerful family home of Dutch designers Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink, filled with pastel tones and unique one-of-a-kind finds, which I recently photographed for my Homes with Heart column on Decor8. I had such a great day shooting this lovely fresh space, not to mention the couple’s adorable daughter {who was loving being behind the camera}. Check it out!

Bloomingville A/W 2014 Collection

July 24th, 2014

It’s been very hot here in The Netherlands for the last week so it’s strange to imagine that frosty temperatures are a matter of months away. And as much as we are soaking up every inch of the summer sun, after laying eyes on the new Autumn/Winter 2014 catalogue from the Danish interiors line Bloomingville, I must admit I suddenly have the urge to snuggle up into cosy evenings, light candles and fill my home with moody tones, textures and Nordic design.

Inspiring Art by Andy Curlowe

July 7th, 2014

I’m really into art at the moment, and recently stumbled across an artist by the name of Andy Curlowe. His mixed media works are quite stunning and very unique. Graphic, bold, whimsical yet subdued, his work is pure eye candy and truly inspirational. If you follow me on Pinterest {in particular, my Art & Illustrations board}, you’ll know that I love bold, abstract art in muted colours and lots of texture. Curlowe’s work embodies all that I love about abstract art so I was thrilled to have discovered him.

Wrap it Pretty with Flowers

July 2nd, 2014

I told you about the fresh flower workshop I led at a charming lifestyle event called Fort Festijn near Amsterdam over the weekend. I showed my attendees how to create fresh floral headbands, which you can read about here. But I also offered all the materials and ideas for people to make their own beautifully wrapped gift box using fabrics and fresh flowers. It’s so much fun to give something thoughtful but also to go the extra mile and wrap in thoughtfully into a pretty package!
