Featured: Bedroom Project in Couch Mag

January 30th, 2015

Hey guys! Dropping in to share some news with you, of the very exciting type. My bedroom has been featured in the January issue of COUCH magazine, a gorgeous German publication! I’ve photographed countless homes and seen the most beautiful spaces over the last few years, so it is quite surreal for me to see my home {one room counts, doesn’t it?} splashed on the pages of a glossy mag. But there you have it. The bedroom, in all it’s simplistic glory, has made a fully fledged, 6 page feature. Check it out!

Cover How awesome is that?! It’s incredibly gratifying, after all the blood, sweet and tears we poured into this room {mainly from my husband’s body but still, every project needs a foreman!} to see it pop up in magazines and all over the internet as a source of inspiration to so many. Food Files: The Best Scones Ever

January 28th, 2015

The other day I took you on a tour of Yvonne Eijkenduijn’s lovely home in Belgium, telling you all about how she spent the day baking while I was photographing away. I was treated to a delicious lunch followed by the most heavenly, melt-in-your-mouth scones fresh from the oven. Soooo good, were Yvonne’s scones that I thought it almost unkind to not share the recipe with you. So folks, whip up a batch of amazing with Yvonne’s easy recipe below!

Food Files: Yvonne Eikenduijn's Best Scones Ever // Avenue Lifestyle FRESH SCONES FROM YVONNE’S KITCHEN

400 gr plain flower
25 gr white caster sugar
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp baking powder
a pinch of salt
50 gr unsalted butter (softened)
250 ml low fat yoghurt
200 gr raisins
1 egg

Preheat the oven to 200 C

With a spoon stir the flour, sugar, bicarbonate and salt until it’s one mixture.

Soften the butter in a microwave. Add butter, yoghurt and raisins to the rest of the mixture until it’s a fast and sticky dough.

Scoop the dough on a well floured surface, dust the top of the dough with flour. Pat the dough about 4 cm high and push a 6 cm scone cutter firmly through the dough.

Place on a baking tray (with baking paper) about 2 cm apart.

Beat the egg and lightly brush the tops of the scones with the egg.

Place for 12-14 minutes in the oven. Get the full scoop

Birds by Emma von Brömssen

January 26th, 2015

I recently started following Swedish artist, textile, pattern, fabric and wallpaper designer Emma von Brömssen on Instagram and before I knew it I was on her website, in her shop, and delighting in her charming poster collection of birds made from leaves, berries and twigs.

Birds by Emma von Brömssen // Avenue Lifestyle I think these quirky little creatures are so sweet, and I love Emma’s product styling too. My favourites are the  little guy with the pink and green leaves and the peacock above!

Inside Scoop: Sweet Pastel Style in Belgium

January 22nd, 2015

It’s always a buzz when I see my work in print. This week something sweet popped through the letterbox – the home tour I shot for my decor8 column made the cover of the German title Sweet Living Magazin! Sweet Living has been wonderful about supporting my work, and have featured me on the cover on several occasions now, but it remains exciting every time. For this feature I went inside the charming Belgium home of Yvonne Eijkenduijn, a photographer, blogger and the author of the books Yvestown in the Kitchen and the Weekend Ontbijtboek {a gorgeous little breakfast book}.

SweetLiving_Titel 2_15 Yvonne and her husband Boris have spent the best part of the last 6 years renovating their home on the Belgian border, which dates back to 1896. The results? A space that exudes love, light and Yvonne’s feminine sense of style. Throughout the renovation, the couple have maintained the home’s original features, giving it a fresh new lease on life while respecting the history behind the property. You can read all about the renovation process HERE.

New Year, New You: Refresh Your Home and Style + a Giveaway!

January 19th, 2015

Well guys, the new year is in full swing and I have hit the ground running. The first two weeks of this year have just flown by and every day has been a busy one. Has it been the same for you? How has your year started off? I feel as though Christmas was months ago! In the last few weeks we have made progress in leaps and bounds at home with the renovation, and while I am living in what I can only describe as a giant tool box, I am seeing smooth walls, fresh paint and progress all around me and I am finally starting to see what I have been envisioning since a year ago. It’s refreshing and exciting, and very tiring as we are doing everything ourselves, but because of that the process has been so incredibly rewarding. Finally, the fun bit has begun – the decorating – and my shop is proving a great source of envy, I must admit. I have stocked the shop with lots more gorgeous products over the last little while, all of which I want in my life! From art to interior accessories, jewellery and lovely kids items, there’s a ton of gorgeous happening in there, all in support of their talented makers and all to inspire you to refresh your home, life and self for a brand new year. And the best bit? I’m giving away $50 worth of gorgeous jewellery from Inbal Designs so read on to see what’s in stock and find out how to win something lovely for yourself or someone special.

So how do you refresh for the new year? One of my favourite ways to refresh my home is having a good clean out of things that don’t inspire me anymore and adding a few new accessories that do. These pillows and accessories are so beautiful and would add style to any space, but I’d love to see these in the bedroom, with some fresh flowers in that stunning Keith Kreeger vase on the bedside table, the candle propped up on a couple of books and the cushions scattered amongst some linen pillows on a freshly made bed. I think my husband would kill me if I decided to redesign our bedroom already, but you go for it! Get the full scoop

Inside Scoop: Tina Fussell’s Copenhagen Home

January 6th, 2015

Hey guys, Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful break and are rearing to go again. I’m feeling recharged after some disconnected time and am ready for an awesome year! Our holidays were spent chipping away at our renovation, making huge progress I can’t wait to share with you. I thought I’d kick off 2015 with another Inside Scoop, this time taking you through the Copenhagen home of Tina Fussell {blogger, photographer and stylist behind Traveling Mama} and her lovely family, who have just returned to Denmark after 6 months in the US. You might recall I went to Denmark and Sweden back in March this year with photographer Jansje Klazinga to style and shoot three interiors together. It’s always a waiting game afterwards while the images are sold to magazines and then printed but I am thrilled to see another production published, this time in the January issue of the Dutch magazine Ariadne at Home. Nice way to kick off a new year, right? Let’s step inside Tina’s home.

Tina and her husband Jack Fussell, along with their three gorgeous kids Hailey, Parker and Landon, have called this charming three story Copenhagen townhouse home since 2010, having spent several years living abroad in Spain as well as Morocco. “Officially, we are an American family, but we are truly what you would call global citizens. We live where Jack’s work as an entrepreneur and photographer brings us; moving to Copenhagen was our twentieth!” The ‘Traveling Tribe’, as they call themselves, have based themselves close to the centre of Copenhagen, in a house with a small terrace in a quiet street. “The latter is especially nice for the kids.” Get the full scoop
