Inside Scoop: Cosy Winter Cottage

14.01.14

Winter seems to have finally appeared here in the Netherlands after a very slow start to the season and the icy temperatures have me thinking back to a shoot I recently did of the Scandinavian inspired weekend escape of interior designer Nathalie Fransen and her family. Below are a selection of my favourite images, but the tour featured on my Decor8 column called ‘Homes with Heart‘ so pop over to Decor8 to get the whole scoop of this cute cottage! Ready? Let’s start in the bedroom…

Nathalie shares this petite space with her partner Bas van Egmond and their three children. Though they reside in Delft, they purchased this little cottage as a means to escape the hustle and bustle of town life and get amongst nature. During the winter months, Nathalie enjoys nothing more than creating a perfectly cosy cottage for her family of five to enjoy, being careful to maintain the clean, contemporary look and feel of the 38 square meter space. They bought their cottage a year ago from an elderly couple who had lived in it for 17 years. The interior was dark, dated and almost entirely brown. Large quantities of white paint and a fresh perspective has given this much loved cottage a second life, and a city dwelling family of five a sweet weekend escape.

I had the best time staying with Nathalie in her cottage prepping the space for this  festive shoot. The days were chilly and short, but we chatted, styled, drank tea and photographed our way to perfection to bring this collection of images to you.

Being a slight marble fanatic, I particularly love the marble bread and cheese board we threw into the mix paired with Nathalie and Bas’s design pieces, natural colour scheme with touches of green and elements of nature. You can get one of those from marble specialists Lijns. Neeeed one!

Curious to see Nathalie’s business partner Tessa’s holiday cottage? I photographed her home during the summer and it has the same light, bright, contemporary cosy feel to it. Click here for the full tour!

See you back here again this week. I have some wedding related news to share!

Wooden floors painted in white and windows’ display … that’s what I love of Northern apartments! We don’t have any of this in France and this apartment have both (with that blinding white light that makes everything look so smooth!). very nice indeed! thank you for sharing. xxi.

    • Yes, all the white certainly is very inspiring, particularly during the dark winter days when natural light is essential. Although I could just as easily take off to France! Yes, that would be rather nice too 🙂
