As a stylist and interior designer, I shop a lot and am on a constant lookout for furniture that is functional (I have a lot of husbands to win over in my line of work, most of which are concerned with this thing called ‘function’), but also beautiful and affordable. That’s a lot of boxes to tick, guys. When I discovered Walden, an Austrian furniture label that produces beautiful beds, leaning storage systems and accessories out of European sourced oak, cherrywood and walnut, I immediately loved their products, their design ethos and overall brand aesthetic. It didn’t take long before I snapped up one of their leaning storage racks for my studio, and now I am excited to show you more of their collection, chat a bit about branding and why I think Walden have nailed it, and let you know that you can WIN one of their gorgeous wooden art ledges for your home!
Walden make furniture to stand the test of time, that retain the natural beauty of the materials they are made with and emphasise function and everyday use. Their leaning rack is my favourite but their beds are sublime, their art ledges so simple and lovely, and their little bedside table with a magazine/book pocket on the side very clever. But what always interests me is how a product is made and I love that this brand goes to great lengths to protect our environment by avoiding waste and to keeping their ecological footprint as small as possible. They use natural materials with no harmful pollutants.
What got my attention when I visited their website for the first time was their very careful and consistent branding. They call it their ‘Waldentity’.
In my Blogging Your Way e-courses I have taught with Holly Becker from decor8, we have stressed how branding is one of the most important aspects of online marketing and business development in today’s online and tech savvy environment. In a world where people have little time and a wavering attention span due to the flood of information that is to be found on the worldwide web, a consistent and strong identity is key to standing out in the crowd and growing your audience and consumer market. I was so inspired by Walden’s branding that I pulled together a few moodboards from their Tumbler account to show how consistent their use of colour, texture and emotion is, and how that translates to their design ethos and overall aesthetic.
Clean lines, crisp whites, contemporary cabins, ethereal forests thick with fur trees, a sense of freedom and wild abandon. I took one look at these images and was lost in a world where an appreciation for nature, craftsmanship and simple, uncomplicated living is a powerful entity. What stands out to me is their consistent colour palette for branding themselves, one which is derived from nature, the colour of wood, the crispness of whites.
So good! What’s your favourite piece in their collection? I’d pretty much give my right arm for their ‘Light’ bed in walnut or oak. And I’ll be bringing in another ‘Italic’ leaning rack into the studio because it’s so incredibly useful and stylish. What about you?
Would you like to win one of Walden’s ‘Align’ art ledges made from Walden made from either walnut, cherrywood or oak? We have one up for grabs and it’s worth 99 euro! The giveaway is open worldwide so don’t be shy!

We are remodeling our living room and I would place an oak art ledge above the new sofa that we have ordered. Catherine
I would place this art ledge in my girls’ shared bedroom. They produce massive amounts of art and I’m always looking for beautiful ways to display it. I think I would choose oak, just because.
Very impressed with Walden’s store philosophy!
Their work is so beautiful and I LOVE all their Tumblr pics you shared! I’d put a walnut shelf in my art studio!! I want one of those leaning racks you have! <3<3<3
Hey Holly!
Wonderful stuff again! I am renovating my house on the island in Greece so your blog has been a must-read task lately! Every lovely piece I have will go there…to my dream house!
So, I would choose the oak and I would place it above the bed or at the hall way. 🙂
Keep up the great work!!
Best,
Tonia
Hi Holly, nice you are spreading a bit of Oz design, they are wonderful and I’m really passionate about them.
This ledge looks perfect on my guest room, it’s double hight and has a mezzanine part, where the bed is, I can stand up there, but there is space just for the mattress, that actually is left directly on the floor, the ceiling is a wonderful chestnut wood tuscan roof and thinking to keep a minimal and simply style to this space, this shelf could really give that minimal touch to the space in front of the bed and keep space at the same time.
Oak is probably the best essence in my case! Thank you for sharing with us your ideas, you are always really inspiring.
Have a wonderful day.

these are beautiful! i would love to put the oak finish art ledge above our bed. it would be the perfect addition.
Very nice things!!
I am renovating my living room and I know the perfect place for this lovely piece! The colours of the space are white & light grey and the floor white oak. I will leave the colour to you!
Thank you!
Loooooved everything. I would put it in my livingroom since we are just remodeling and it would look perfect for the minimalism we are looking for. The colors of the space are grey, white and black (so far, we are trying to include some plants) so I think it would look great in oak, since the coffee table we DYI has some oka in it.
Thank you!
the art ledge is so beautiful and I have a hard time deciding where to put it. it would look really nice (in walnut or oak) in our bathroom or in the bedroom or my girl’s room or the living room or the entrance hall. arrrrrgh. I will simply move it around from time to time…
Oh wow – I love all of the Walden products. We are completely renovating and repairing our home in Christchurch, New Zealand following major earthquake damage (five years ago! Slow process!). I would put the ledge in the master bedroom that I am soooooo happy to move back into after a year on a mattress in the living room :-). Can’t wait to make my new/old space beautiful again (with inspiration from Holly, of course)! My pick is oak or walnut …. maybe walnut.
I like oak wood. I would put this in my son’s room.
Oh, those art ledges are beautiful! We’d love them for the bedroom in our new housie of course :). Wallnut is my favourite, but they are all lovely.
I absolutely love Walden furniture and I love your style. I would like to put the ledge in my kitchen so I can put art and potentially some antique spice containers on it. Oak would be my preferred wood type.
Have a great start into the week!
Hi Holly,
These are beautiful art ledges! I would love to put one in oak above the piano in our living room.
Thank you for saring!
All the best! Anna
So gorgeous! We’re hoping to buy our first home this month, and this would be the most perfect addition. I’d love the oak finish 🙂

Hi Holly,
What a lovely giveaway! I would love to have the walnut art ledge since it will perfectly fit the space above my working table.

I would love the oak art ledge! It would look great above my desk. I’d love to put inspirational prints up there!
The oak art ledge is fantastic. I would place it above my desk in the study.
I would choose the walnut!!
We’re planning on a make-over of our entire house, solemny using small items. The oak art ledge fits perfectly with the aesthetics we’re aiming for!
