Studio Scenes | Rusty Cool Moodboard

Who doesn’t love a good moodboard? Here in the studio we rely on mood boarding to keep our work and aesthetic fresh, current and consistent. When we moved into the studio over a year ago, one of the first projects we undertook was making a giant moodboard so we could visually express our ideas and it’s become a favourite element of the studio for all of us, is a conversation starter with our clients and makes for a bit of fun each time we change things up! We thought we’d drop in today to share our most recent inspiration board with you today.

The moodboard above was our first and gosh, was it fun putting it together. You can see more of it (and the rest of the studio) HERE. We had ideas and inspiration coming from everywhere having just merged to form Avenue Design Studio and it was so gratifying putting all of it together to create a central style board that we felt was a representation of where we were taking Avenue together. Fast forward many months, several projects, and even more inspiration and it was time for a change. Here’s what our team came up with for fall/winter, which we will be changing up again soon with the change of season. Project H – The Living Room

Annnnd we’re back with another wrapped up project (happy dance!) and this time you may have recognised the name in the header. The Project H bedroom is by far one of our most pinned, liked, commented projects ever and we are still getting emails and compliments on it two years on. We showed you the home office shortly after the bedroom went live, and today (better late than never, right?) we are pleased to share with you the recently completed living room.

With a strong preference for neutrals, our client returned to us for phase two of her home redesign with the request to finish off her living room and sitting areas, as well as the kitchen. She had already invested in a few key pieces and inherently has a wonderful eye for design, but was missing the red thread that ties everything together. Over the course of many months, we slowly replaced all the major furniture, and then installed new rugs, lighting, curtains, art and accessories. The goal was a textured, clean living area that felt calm and serene. Detailed but understated. The client was happy with a base of oak floors and crisp white walls but we wanted to warm up the space, using a palette of whites.

Project R | Little Girl’s Bedroom

Are you guys enjoying the Project R series? Today we are back with another room reveal, this time a sweet little girls’ space. Our client enlisted us to help her with her home at the end of 2016, with the goal of adding style, personality, function and a overall sense of cohesion to her newly renovated family home. We layered in a muted colour palette, lots of texture and cohesive accessories to bring this family home to life. We are so thrilled to see the whole house featured in the Dutch magazine vtwonen this month that we thought we’d give you guys the full treatment, sharing our sources along the way! We have shown you the living room, the play room and now the sweetest little girl’s room we think you’ll love.

Our client was deeply inspired by a very special room tour she had spotted here on the blog that you might recall – Lola’s bedroom. So much so, that for her own daughter we adopted many of the same ideas including half painted walls, soft linens, clever storage solutions and a sweet palette fit for a princess. It’s always such a compliment to know that our spaces inspire others and we were more than pleased for the same love to be applied to this room as it was in Lola’s. With the bed and a few heirloom pieces already in place, we layered in the softness to create a charming space that any little lady would love!  Get the full scoop

Project R | The Play Room

We’re back today to share another space in the Project R home we recently wrapped up – did you see the living room? We are so thrilled to see this home featured in a huge 16 page spread in the latest issue of vtwonen magazine that we are taking you on a room-by-room tour all week. Today we are taking you through the play room! With two young children our client wanted to create an inviting space where they could play, create, relax and explore. Here’s what we came up with!

Project R | The Living Room

It’s always exciting to reach the end of a project but to see it published in print makes it that much more rewarding. When our client enlisted us to help her with her home at the end of 2016, the main agenda was to apply a fresh layer of style, personality, function and a overall sense of cohesion to her newly renovated abode which she shares with her husband and two children. The results are a characteristic and layered residence that blends modest sophistication with a muted but joyful palette, with an overarching family atmosphere. Today we are thrilled to see this home featured in a huge 16 page spread in the Dutch title vtwonen magazine and thought it would be fun for those of you who read this blog but don’t have access to vtwonen, to walk you through each space over the coming week. We’ll be sharing the living area, kitchen, play room, kids bedroom and guest bedroom plus a ton of resources so you can shop the tour yourselves. Let’s start today with the living room!

Renovator and project manager by profession, our client had already tackled the structural aspects of her spacious home, with the goal of creating a sense of comfort in what was otherwise a large and uninviting living space on the ground floor. When we stepped in, the starting point was clear with various interesting areas and a host of furniture to work with. While we like to work from the base upwards, the leg work had already been put, our client having already reworked the layout to maximise the functionality of each area. In the living room, what was initially a very large open space had been divided into various rooms and created an interesting yet functional home for her family of four. All  that was missing the finishing touch and a sense of cohesiveness throughout, and that’s where we come in!

Simple & Smart: Lighting by Vertigo Bird

Late last year we had the pleasure of teaming up with Design Studio Nu once more to shoot a line of contemporary lighting from the Slovenian label Vertigo Bird for their website and social platforms. As always, the girls at Nu took the lead in terms of concept and styling, choosing their new warehouse studio space as the location for the shoot with routed concrete walls and an industrial quality that was hard not to love. It was a fun project that we are excited to share with you today!

Vertigo Bird is a young lighting design house based out of Ljubljana, Slovenia, offering quality, timeless and energy efficient lighting. It was founded by Silvo Kacar of Arcadia Lightware – one of Slovenia’s most successful lighting companies. Silvo had seen the work that we had done previously (here and here) for the furniture label Rex Kralj and wanted to get their ‘simple and smart’ line of lights behind our lens too, starting with their newest products, the KAT flush mount ceiling lamp, the DEMIJOHN pendant with it’s warm wood edging, the cute and practical CONCIERGE wall mounted night light, and the FUNNEL pendant.

Studio Tour: Ask og Eng

One of the things we love most about social media are the connections we have been able to make, the friendships that have been forged, the creative collaborations that have been made a possibility and the inspiration that we are fortunate to have access to on a daily basis. Instagram has been such an integral medium for us to be able to share our own projects and inspire others along the way, but to be inspired ourselves by incredible creative talent all over the globe. One such talent is the Norwegian duo Kine Ask Stenersen and Kristoffer Eng behind Ask og Eng. We connected over Instagram, immediately taken by their beautiful kitchens and overall design ethos, and before we knew it we were headed to Norway to capture their home and studio space on camera. Today, we are thrilled to bring you a full tour of their Drammen studio and showroom, where they design, present and create their bamboo kitchens and furniture.

Husband-and-wife team Kine and Kristoffer founded Ask og Eng in 2016, having designed and built their own sustainable kitchens and furniture over a number of years. Kine’s background in environmental geography and climate change combines with Kristoffer’s background in architecture, resulting in a beautiful brand in which clever design, functionality and sustainability play a key role. Project Miami | The Reveal

This post has been a long time coming, guys! There have been hints dropped on Instagram about a project we have recently rounded off in Miami, Florida. It’s been a year and a half in the making and it brings me so much joy to be able to share with you the results that we captured while on location a few weeks ago for the final install. Today we’ll walk you through the process, including the before shots we know you love so much, some of our designs and the finished results! Let’s jump straight in. 

I (Holly) took this project on a year and a half ago – before my merge with Hedda though she was a huge support throughout the process because an international interior design project is no easy feat, I can tell you! The project was a full tear-out, renovation and redesign of a two bed, three bath penthouse apartment. And we did it all from the other side of the world. With many logistical challenges along the way, you can only imagine how satisfying it is to finally be able to share the completed spaces with you today. Get the full scoop
