Welcome, 2014: Reflecting and Resolving

Happy New Year guys! I hope you all celebrated the eve of 2014 in style, and are geared up, ready and inspired to make the coming year a fabulous one. The past year went by so fast, and I have much to be grateful for. So today, feeling fresh and revived, I am doing some reflecting on the past year and putting forth a few resolutions to make sure this year is even better than the last. Here we go!

For me, 2013 got off to a fantastic start with a marriage proposal {always a great way to kick off any new year, if you ask me!} followed by the launch of Avenue Lifestyle. I took giant leaps forward this past year, both in my personal and professional life. It was a year of firsts. Here are just a few of the highlights of 2013:

Launching Avenue Lifestyle and writing my first post on the blog was a major highlight. Launching the blog gave me a place to share, create and inspire, both myself and you guys.

Kick starting my Wedding Files column, and getting started on planning our big day which is taking place this May!

Funky Netherlands Home Tour by Holly Marder for Decor8

Starting a monthly column called ‘Homes with Heart‘ on one of my all-time favourite bogs, Decor8, featuring gorgeous interiors.

Provence by Holly Marder

Our trip to Provence was the only time we broke away together this year. The weather was perfect, and when not soaking in the swimming pool, all I could do was snap beautiful things with my camera. It was food for the soul, that trip. Sigh…

Wohnideen aus dem Wahren Leben

Collaborating on my first ever book project. That was something I definitely didn’t see coming, but gosh it makes me happy to see my images and words in a book!

Spending time with my daughter Lola is the highlight of my day, but this year she made a little appearance on the blog from our trip to the South of France. I just adore this little one.

Avenue Lifestyle featured on Style Me Pretty Living

Being featured on Style Me Pretty Living‘s ‘Behind the Blog‘ series! I still feel funny seeing myself out there like that but I am so honoured to have been featured and still get butterflies reading SMP founder Abby Larson‘s beautiful intro.

Collaborating with the talented Anouschka Rokebrand on editorial shoots has been a real highlight. I love working with her and look forward to styling many more inspirational shoots together.

Engaged Workshop 2013 by Holly Marder/Avenue Lifestyle

Hosting a workshop at the gorgeous wedding event Engaged! This was another first for me and one that I was nervous but excited about. It was SO much fun. I am definitely looking forward to the next!

I really loved making this! I used leftover florals from aforementioned workshop and had the best time creating this floral wreath. I definitely want to do more of this kind of thing in 2014.

I’d like to thank all of you for following along on my adventures, pausing to read Avenue Lifestyle during your busy day and supporting me on this creative journey. I have big plans for the coming year, so stay tuned!

Now, for some resolutions to get things started in a positive way. In 2014, I aim to:

1. Be the best wife and mother that I can be to my little family. They are my world and I don’t tell them often enough. We have so much to be thankful for. Health, a home that is getting prettier by the day, stability. I plan to pause each day to really show them how grateful I am for them and all that we are together.

2. Be less critical of myself and be OK with imperfection. This could well be one of my biggest strengths and one of my greatest pitfalls. I really need to work on this.

3. Be grateful. One of my very best friends always reminds me to make a list of the things that I am grateful for. When life gets busy and overwhelming and we’re caught up in our daily tasks and the stress that goes with keeping everything afloat, we often forget to simply be grateful. I always feel charged and so much less stressed once I’ve jotted down all the wonderful things happening around me.

4. Get more organised and not leave things to the last minute! I’m the first to admit that I am terrible with that, but it’s so much healthier to plan well ahead of time.

5. Take more time out for myself. This is so important, and as women with families and jobs I think this is often the last thing that we allow ourselves, but this year I am making it my personal mission to give myself some rest and some time out, in whatever form that may take.

6. Go on date nights. As the parents of a busy toddler, we often forget to do simple things together, such as talk {trust me, holding a conversation is much harder than you’d think when you have a toddler to contend with!}, hold hands, go for a coffee… alone! This year I want to get romantic with my man. He really is so worth the extra effort that will take.

Well, that feels better! Have you made any New Year’s resolutions? I’d love to read them in the comments section below!

Wishing you all a wonderful year ahead, and may it be filled with joy, love, health and success.

Holly x

Hi Holly, wish you a very happy 2014! It was very nice to read this post about 2013 and about your plans for this year. You really made a giant leap in blogland and it all looks serious and so light and fresh. I like it and I will keep on following you. My plans for this year. Getting more organized, work on my blog and my shop. And spend more time with my family, a bit the same like you: being gratefull (I am!) but letting know my lovelies and spend more time dating with my husband. Great idea!
